This is my picture for Autism Awareness Month.
Alright the story behind the picture is this.
This idea came from a book that I read when I was in 7th grade and I loved it soooooo much. The main character was a 15 year old boy who was autistic. Well in the story he happened to get arrested for picking up a dead dog and holding it. So it made it seem like he murdered the dog when he didn't. Well the boy Christopher has some characteristic traits about him that are different to society. One of them was that he didn't like to be touched. When the officer grabbed him to put him in the car he flipped out (to say in the least) and attacked the officer. It was his way of self defense. When his father had to pick him he saw his son (christopher) sitting behind the glass paneling shunning away from everyone but when his father spread out his fingers in a fan like motion and placed them on the glass christopher did the same thing. It was the father's way of telling him that everything was going to be alright and that he loved him. In my picture I drew a very eccentric girl and a normal looking boy. From the number of ppl I asked of who they thought was the autistic one they said the girl. When in reality it was the boy. I did this to show that people who are autistic are ppl just like us and they don't need to be treated badly or poorly or to stand out.
